Enough About Music
A podcast with Savannah Welch
Welcome to "Enough About Music," the podcast where I shoot the breeze with musicians about anything under the sun except for music. I'm your host, Savannah Welch, and I’ll be giving your favorite artists a platform to discuss anything and everything else that informs who they are and how they got here, humanizing those who may be idealized, cultivating common ground with relatable shared experience, and giving us all the chance to recognize the ways in which we’re more alike than we are different.
Please join me as we step away from the stage and studio to uncover unexpected stories, passions, hobbies, random expertise and interests, dreams and ambitions, complaints and inspirations that shape the individuals behind the music. There are formulaic interviews, then there’s this one.
Headquarters is the heart of Texas with a global state of mind.
Kevin Russell
Legendary Austin Frontman
Shinyribs defies genres as a sonic melting pot of Texas Blues, New Orleans R&B funk, horn- driven Memphis Soul, country twang, border music, big band swing, and roots-rock. The Austin-based nine-piece (sometimes 10-piece) supergroup is led by Kevin Russell, the charismatic frontman with colorful suits and extravagant shoes who continuously swaps out an electric guitar for a ukulele and never falls short of creating a cinematic experience with on- stage antics that often include him donning a light-up cloak or leading a conga line through the crowd.
Shinyribs was named ‘Best Austin Band’ at the Austin Chronicle’s Austin Music Awards in 2017 and 2018.
